In collaboration with artist Sukey Bryan, students at Stanford have created a 35-foot canvas painting that will be temporarily installed at the bottom of the White Memorial Fountain (the Claw) outside the Stanford Bookstore. The piece, called the Sky Fountain Exhibit, was put in place on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Over 40 Stanford students contributed to the painting, which was created over the weekend of Jan. 24 and mimics a sky’s reflection on the surface of water. The art was inspired by the present drought that has left fountains across campus void of water since late 2013.
The temporary exhibit offers a tribute to Stanford’s fountain tradition and also serves as a reminder about current drought and climate problems. Bryan expressed hope that the installation will prompt students and faculty members to be mindful about water conservation. The Sky Fountain Exhibit will run until Sunday, March 1.
