Entering the final month of the regular season undefeated through 22 matches, the No. 1 Cardinal are off to their best start since winning 27 consecutive matches to begin their 1991 season. Last Sunday, the Card knocked off the No. 12 Oregon Ducks — the third highest ranked Pac-12 school in the AVCA Coaches’ Poll — in a clean 3 set sweep.
Stanford players currently lead the nation in two individual statistical categories to this point, with junior setter Madi Bugg averaging 12.07 assists per set and sophomore middle blocker Merete Lutz, who redshirted her freshman year, hitting .468 thus far.
Tonight, the No. 20 Sun Devils arrive at Maples for a rematch of the teams’ Oct. 12 match in Tempe, which Stanford won in four sets. Coming off of a five-set loss to Colorado on Sunday, ASU enters its road trip looking for its first win over the Cardinal since 2000 to avoid falling under .500 in conference play.
The Sun Devils are led by junior outside hitter Macey Gardner, who had a match-high 14 kills against the Cardinal earlier this season and ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with 4.13 kills per set.
First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Maples Pavilion.
