Bob and Mike Bryan ’98 captured gold in the Olympic men’s tennis doubles competition at the All-England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in Wimbledon on Saturday.
The duo defeated the French pair of Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 7-6 (2) in the finals. In the first set, the Bryan brothers took a 4-3 lead that they never relinquished. They then broke a tightly contested 6-6 tiebreaker in the second set to take the match.
The win gave the No. 1-seeded Bryan brothers their first Olympic gold medals, after taking bronze in Beijing 2008 and being eliminated in the quarterfinals in Athens 2004.
The 11-time Grand Slam title winners have now won 79 major doubles crowns.
