There’s a buzz in the Daily office tonight. A new volume is here.

New volume, new blog: Welcome to the Stanford Daily newsroomTwice a year, we change the guard, electing a new editor in chief, handing freshmen new responsibilities and upping the volume number below the print edition’s masthead by one. And as we have done in some iteration since 1892, we’ll deliver a newspaper tomorrow morning to accompany your corn flakes: Volume 237, Issue 1.

But that’s not all. See, there’s this blog.

Heading into today, we revisited our job description: to gather and report the Stanford community’s news and to provide educational opportunities for young journalists in the process. We asked how we could do that job better. We asked where we could contextualize the day’s news and round up multimedia. We asked what our readers could gain by pulling up a seat at the news desk, so to speak.

Which led us here.

Over the next volume — and beyond — we invite you to make this news blog a part of your Daily experience and, more importantly, to contribute. Have a tip, a question or a newsworthy YouTube link? Send us an e-mail. Want to chime in on today’s headlines? Start the discussion with a comment. Looking for a glimpse of tomorrow’s news? Come on back.

We’ll be wherever The Daily is — in your dining hall, on your doorstep, along your route to class — gathering the day’s best news, in print and on the Web. We want your help.

And if this volume is anything like the past 236? We can’t wait.

Welcome aboard.
